Audrey Moore Obituary

Audrey Jean (Rabideau) Moore, 102, joined her Heavenly Father on June 9, 2024.

Audrey was born on April 10, 1922, in Virginia, Minnesota; the daughter of the late Walter and Nellie Rabideau. She had lived in Ashtabula for seventy years.

An educator throughout her life, Audrey graduated from Virginia Junior College with a 2 year secretarial degree. From 1942-1946 she was employed by the FBI in the Cleveland and Los Angeles
offices and was the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Medina, Ohio, for two years.

She married her late husband, Warren D. Moore, in 1946. Married for over 52 years, they had three daughters, Janet Kathleen, Susan Elizabeth and Bonnie Jean.

In the years after moving to Ashtabula, Audrey received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University and her Master’s in Education as well as her
Reading certification from Lake Erie College. After staying home with her young daughters, she began teaching in the elementary schools at Buckeye Schools in 1962, retiring in 1984. Traveling
throughout the United States as a family, Audrey and Warren also journeyed to Canada, Europe and the Holy Land. Beginning in 1986, Green Valley, Arizona, was her winter residence for 31 years. For several years, Audrey lived in her home in Ashtabula with her daughter, Bonnie, as her primary caretaker until finally (at age 100½) she moved to The Villa at the Lake, an assisted living facility in Conneaut, OH. The family wishes to thank The Villa on the Lake as well as Hospice of Western Reserve for their compassion, comfort and care given to our mom.

A testament to her strong faith, Audrey lived a life of serving others in the school setting, at home and church showing kindness to all she met. During the years she was home with her daughters, Audrey was a seamstress, making many of the girls’ clothes. Even in retirement, she made countless teddy bears for children in hospitals as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Audrey was a member of the Garden Trails Garden Club, the National State and County Retired Teacher’s Associations, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashtabula, and past president of the United Methodist Women.

Audrey loved to play cards and games, playing Bridge and Pinochle with her husband for many years, and, most recently, games and cards with even her youngest great-grandchildren- something they will always remember.  A blessing to her family, Audrey will be greatly missed by her daughters, Janet (Ron) Munn of Corry, PA, and Green Valley, AZ, Susan (Jeff) Hinman of Red Lion, PA, and Bonnie (Steve) Hensler of Ashtabula; her grandchildren: Julie (John) Moore, Ron Munn, Jacquelyn Dougherty, Tiffany Emerick, Katherine (Christopher) Brown, Jennifer (Ryan) Emerson, Rebeca Hensler and David Hensler, her great-grandchildren: Anthony, Caleb, Levi and Emma Moore, Colin and Elizabeth Dougherty, Quinn and Sadie Emerick, Adalin and Clara Brown, and Henry and Lucy Emerson as well as several dear nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 1999, two sisters, Loretta and Carol and three brothers, Clinton, Raymond and Melvin.

On Sunday, June 16, 2024, visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Fleming and Billman Funeral Home, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio.  A Celebration of Christian Life will be held at 12:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church on Elm Avenue in Ashtabula, OH.
