Arnold Brown Obituary

Arnold DeWayne Brown, 90, passed away on February 16, 2024, at his home in Ashtabula, Ohio.

He was born on August 6, 1933, in Whiskerville, Pennsylvania, the son of Harold and Virginia (McCracken) Brown.

Arnold proudly served his country for two years in the United States Army.

On December 14, 1957, Arnold married his bride, Sandra Sue Burrows, they recently celebrated sixty-six wonderful years of marriage together.

He moved from Erie, PA to Ashtabula to work at Reactive Metals Industries (RMI); he also worked at Reliance Electric for over twenty-nine years and retired from there in 1998.

Arnold was extremely active and participated in many activities throughout his life; he enjoyed sailing, ice boating, square dancing, knitting, sewing, bike riding, snow-boarding and cross-country skiing.  He was a member of the American Legions Neal Post 703 in North Kingsville, the Boy Scouts, the Sea Scouts, the Indian Guides, a bicycle club, and the Rose Society.  He was a deacon, a sunday school teacher and member of the knitting club at East Side Presbyterian Church.  Arnold was also well known as “Mr. Fix It” and loved working on his Gravley tractor.

He was an unofficial volunteer at the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Arnold  helped make Hospice pillows. He primarily did work on the binding. During the long history of Hospice of the Western Reserve,  6, 127 pillows have been lovingly made and provided to the hospice patients. We would like to thank hospice for his end of life care and guidance to our family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his loving children: Karen (Brad) Stevenson, Kenneth (Michelle) Brown and Keith (Cheri) Brown; his brothers, Paul (Barb) Brown and Bruce (Peggy) Brown; his sister-in-law, Mary Kay Brown;  his grandchildren: Eric (Jamie) Stevenson, Todd (Brieanna) Stevenson, Anna (Nathan) Costin and Clay Brown and his great-grandchildren: Audrina Jackson, Penelope Jackson, Alden Stevenson, Eleanor “Nellie” Costin and Rosalie Costin.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Phylis Liptak, Richard Brown, Sylvia Croscutt, Larry Brown and David Brown.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 11:00a -12:00p with a funeral service at 12:00p at Fleming and Billman Funeral Home, 526 West Prospect Street in Ashtabula, Ohio. Burial to immediately follow the funeral service at Greenlawn Cemetery in North Kingsville, Ohio.
