Andrew “Andy” C. Surkala, 78, passed away April 16, 2025 at Hillcrest Medical Center.
He was born on December 16, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Andrew and Edith (Vlach) Surkala.
Andy was a proud graduate of the 1965 graduating class of Grand Valley high school. Almost 58 years ago on May 26, 1967 he married his beautiful bride Marilyn Jo Springer and together they were blessed with a marriage filled with love, happiness, and the most priceless memories a couple could ask for.
Andy was a pretty well-known meat cutter in northeast Ohio working for several local grocery stores in his 30+ year career. Andy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He and his buddy Rick Jenkins enjoy doing both of those things together for many years, Andy also loved to travel, he and Marilyn invested in a property share program at Walt Disney World and since 1984 have made 35 trips together to Disney. They also enjoyed their travels to Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada, and North Carolina, which were some of their favorites. He attended Saint Joseph Church in Jefferson and Saint Mary’s Church in Orwell. He was also a longtime member of the local meat cutters union.
He survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his brother Ken, and sister-in-law, Darcy; as well as some nieces and nephews he became very close with: Shari (Richard), James (Tammy) Maylish, Lisa (Jeff) Carson, Lori Steen and Jennifer (Maike) Purcell, as well as many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Barbara and Dave Bailey, his brother, Dan and his sister’s in law Ellen and Joyce.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Fleming Billman Funeral Home, 49 West Jefferson St., Jefferson, OH calling hours will be held from 11 to 12 o’clock with funeral service starting at 12 burial will follow in Lenox center cemetery.
