Albert John Rubosky, Jr., 71, passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025, at UH Geauga Medical Center. Born on October 5, 1954, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, Al was the beloved son of Albert and Georgia (Mattes) Rubosky.
Al graduated from Steel Valley High School in 1972 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Thiel College. On May 22, 1976, he married the love of his life, Barbara Jeanette Cook. Together, they built a marriage rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. In the early years of their marriage they moved often as Al climbed the ladder at 84 Lumber Company, bringing them to Ashtabula County. Through a customer at 84 Lumber, Al was introduced to Roaming Shores. He and Barb decided this was where they would settle. Al, supported by Barb, their children and family, personally crafted the Rubosky Family home, nail by nail, board by board, where his dream of living on a lake was realized. Their home, family and community became the foundation of their life together.
Al and Barb were blessed with two children, Albert James and Beth Ellen, who later made their family complete by giving them the gift of grandchildren. Family was the heart of Al’s world—everything he did was motivated by the desire to provide and care for those he loved most.
For over 30 years, Al lead the carpentry program at the Ashtabula County Joint Vocational School. His true reward came from seeing his students succeed, especially when one would return and shake his hand to thank him for the skills and confidence he had helped them develop. Many of his students went on to build successful careers and companies of their own, a legacy that brought Al immense pride. During and following his teaching tenure, Al also ran his own company, Al Rubosky Construction, helping others attain their dream homes as well.
Later in life, he dovetailed his love for fishing, creativity and the outdoors into BassGrubb-OhioFish.com, an online business where he designed, created and sold custom lures to fisherman all over the world. Simultaneously, Al’s competitive nature and fishing knowledge lead him to selling fishing boats at the local marina. His goal was to help others enjoy fishing as much as he did.
Fishing, predominantly bass fishing, was Al’s passion. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends on his boat, but he also honed his skills, competing at a high level in hundreds of local and national bass tournaments. Also, through the Fishing Club, Al enjoyed leading Kids Fishing Day, utilizing his love for fishing, teaching and community to pass his knowledge and skill on to the next generation.
Al was deeply involved in his community where he resided for over 40 years, serving on several Boards, Committees and Clubs: Rome Rock Association Board (Various Positions), Village of Roaming Shores Planning Commission (Chairman), Lake Management Committee (Member), and the Fishing Club (Secretary).
Al was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson, where he served on Council and as the Property Manager.
In his free time, Al enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, movies and sports. While he grew up a Steelers fan, he did the unthinkable and cheered for the Browns as well because his children were Browns fans.
Al always put his family and children first. He and Barb never missed one of their children’s games or activities. Also, Al coached his children’s youth sports teams, loving every minute of it. Of all the roles Al played in his life, his favorite by far was becoming a Grandpa. His grandchildren brought him boundless joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them—always laughing, playing, or sharing stories.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his devoted children, Albert (Kelly) Rubosky and Beth (Brian) Hooser; and his adored grandchildren, Remi Francesca Rubosky and Harrison Lee Hooser. He is also survived by his siblings, Tammy (Robert) Cook, Bill (Leanne) Rubosky, and Luke (Erika) Rubosky, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steven M. Rubosky.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 89 E. Satin Street, Jefferson, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. A luncheon at St. Paul’s will follow the service.
Al will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his kind heart, and his unwavering love for his family— meticulously leaving everything he touched better than how he found it. Al’s greatest joy was helping others whose love will continue to guide those he leaves behind.
