William H. Broughton, 85 of Ashtabula died Friday (June 29th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born Jan. 2, 1933 in Ashtabula the son of Gilbert E. and Olive (McCord) Broughton and has been a lifetime area resident.
William was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1952 until 1956.
He taught for twenty five years in the Buckeye School District at Edgewood High School as an Industrial arts teacher until his retirement.
He is a member of the Kingsville First Baptist Church and a Past President and active member of the Ashtabula Lion’s Club. He was a big promoter of and sold Amsoil Synthetic Oil, one of the first synthetic oils on the market. He also was a stock market enthusiast and did very well helping his church and his family. He enjoyed bowling, golf, old cars, the Cleveland Indians, Cavs and Browns.
Surviving him are his sister, Joyce (Junior R) Snyder of Ashtabula; a nephew, Steve (Mary) Snyder of Jefferson; a great nephew, Phillip and a great niece, Sydney. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Kathleen “Kitty” Broughton in 2006.
Funeral service will be Friday (July 6th) at 11:00 AM at the Kingsville First Baptist Church, 6003 State RT 193, Kingsville, Ohio with Rev. David Hines officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday (July 5th) from 6 to 8 pm at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.
