Sylvia Gaye (Stacy) Rodgers

Sylvia Gaye Rodgers, age 78, Lenox Twp., died early Saturday morning, April 27, 2019 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.

She was born on October 6, 1940 in Jolo, WV, the third of fifteen children of Lee Otis and Bertha Hester (Rife) Stacy. A 1959 graduate of Iaeger High School in West Virginia, Sylvia moved to Ohio a few months later, living first in North Kingsville and then in Ashtabula. While working at the Tom Thumb Drive-In, she met and married her husband, Gaylord H. Rodgers, on September 2, 1961 at the Geneva Bible Church. They moved to Jefferson, and then Lenox Township in 1967, where they raised two sons.

Sylvia worked at the Gazette Newspapers, the Jefferson Geriatric Center and Steven’s Coin Laundry in Andover. She was an avid sports fan, especially following NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She doted on her grandchildren and loved bowling, gardening, and her favorite snack—snickers’ bars.

Survivors include her husband, Gaylord H. Rodgers; two sons, Craig G. (Candace) Rodgers of Ashtabula and David J. (Vickie) Rodgers of California, KY; four grandchildren, Emily McCormick, Ashley (Andrew) Schultz, David “D. J.” (Elizabeth) Rodgers, and Clinton (Anastasia) Rodgers; four great-grandchildren, Colton and Easton McCormick, Abigail Schultz, and Owen Rodgers; and seven siblings of West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee: Terry (Brenda) Stacy, Coy (Betty) Stacy, Josephine Taylor, Curtiss Stacy, Darrell (Brenda) Stacy, Dennie (Cathy) Stacy, and Woodrow (Theresa) Stacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Chelsea Ann Rodgers; five brothers, Otis, Roger, Weddle, Perry and Dennis Stacy; and two sisters, Dorothy Traylor and Lorene Stacy.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:00 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with the Rev. Dr. Mick Gilliam officiating.  Burial will be in Lenox Center Cemetery.
