Sandra I. Babin, 75 of Walnut Blvd. Ashtabula died Saturday (Dec. 7th) at her home. She was born August 27, 1944 in Laurium, Michigan the daughter of Arnold and Ellen Jarvi.
She was a graduate of Harbor High School and she received her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. Teaching was her life. She started teaching in the Buckeye School district then came to the Ashtabula Area City School District where she taught elementary at Thomas Jefferson School. Following her retirement she did substitute teaching and also home schooled children.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace church; an Associate of Sisters of Notre Dame; a member of the Tourist Book Club; the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and The Ashtabula Women’s Club. Sandi also volunteered as a guardian at Catholic Charities. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed traveling but most of all loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving her is her husband Wayne Babin whom she married May 24, 1968; three children, Jill (Jim) Acitelli of Painesville, Ohio, Julie (Glen) Sisk of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Chad (Lani) Babin of Louisville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Cade, Kaci, Carson, Kaili, Spencer and Bennett and a brother, Dennis (Lois) Jarvi of Rotonda West, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday (December 14th) at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Peace St. Joseph Church 3312 Lake Ave. Ashtabula with Rev. Father David Brindling officiating.
Calling hours will be Friday (December 13th) from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio.
