Ross Tittle Obituary

Ross F. Tittle, 101 of Ashtabula died peacefully Tuesday (July 3rd) at his home. He was born April 6, 1917 in Ephratah, New York the son of Frank and Lillian (Prime) Tittle.

He married Edythe Quackenbush on July 6, 1940 and moved to Ashtabula in 1950.

In high school Mr. Tittle was a star athlete in track and football and a star student. One of his proudest achievements was becoming an Eagle Scout in 1932. He studied violin in New York City until he became a field engineer for Burroughs Corporation (Now Unisys). The company put him in charge of servicing all the Burroughs machines in Ashtabula County.

The first week in Ashtabula, he joined the choir of the First United Methodist Church. He continued singing bass with them for over 60 years. He and his wife always remained active members serving on every committee at different times. He also taught senior high Sunday School. For many years they were in charge of providing for the Christmas outreach of serving families in Ashtabula. In the 1950’s he was treasurer of the Ashtabula Little League.

Upon retirement in 1982 he played violin with the Ashtabula Chamber Orchestra and was an integral part of the Ashtabula Youth Orchestra.

After he and his wife retired they traveled extensively. For 20 years he spent the month of April in Orange Beach, AL, taking a two mile walk along the shore every morning. He loved doing crossword puzzles, reading, walking, playing the violin in the Lake Shore Quartet and watching The Lawrence Welk Show. He kept up with the news and his favorite sports team. He could be seen wearing a Steelers, Yankees or Celtics cap.

Each morning would find him at Kardohely’s Restaurant, eating his favorite breakfast and having a good time with everyone there.

Mr. Tittle is survived by two daughters, Lorene “Beany” (Joseph) Rapose of Ashtabula and Lois Zook of Groose Ile, Michigan; three granddaughters, Stacey (Jon) Lazarow, Julie (John) Koschik and  Melissa (Doug) Barrickman; six great grandchildren, Megan, Mitchell, Laura, Erin, Matthew and Joel. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Judy Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edythe Tittle on February 17, 1996; a son, R. Vaughn Tittle, on October 7, 1988 and son-in-law, Keith Zook on September 26, 2016.

The family would like to thank all the staff of Kardohley’s Restaurant for their years of service to Ross’s well being. Also, we know there are people at the bank, library and places throughout town who watched out for him, greeted him with a smile and made his day brighter.
