Richard S. Musser

June 15, 1934 ~ June 18, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old


Richard S. Musser, 83 of Plymouth Township died Sunday (June 18th ) at Villa on the Lake Nursing Home in Conneaut. He was born June 15, 1934 in Bryan, Ohio the son of Warren S. and Dorothy (Grandbouche) Musser and has lived most of his life in the Ashtabula area.

He was a 1952 graduate of Ashtabula High School where he was an outstanding baseball player. He played for a time with the Washington Senators minor league team in Georgia. He also coached and played baseball in the Ashtabula area.  He enjoyed following high school sports, playing golf and he loved all the Cleveland sports teams.

He was a very active member of the Plymouth United Methodist Church where he served as president of the Administrative Counsel and other various committees. He was a past president of the CDRM; he served on the board of Children’s Services and in his younger years was a volunteer fireman for Plymouth Township. He served in the Army National Guard for twenty four retiring as a Staff Sargent. He was employed with East Ohio Gas Company until his retirement.

Surviving him are his wife Joyce (Painter) Musser whom he married Oct. 16, 1954; three daughters,  Cathy (Nick) Cardera of Saybrook ; Debbie (Bruce) Anderson of Saybrook  and Melissa (Chris Wilfong) Gaines of Plymouth Twp.; three granddaughters, Jaclyn Cardera of Saybrook, Pam (Chris) Konalczyk of Ft. Campbell. KY and Amy Anderson of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two great granddaughters Natalie and Katelyn; a brother, Howard (June) Musser of Vallejo, Cal and three sisters, Joyce Wright of Kansas, Linda (Charles) Westerinen of Sacramento, CA and Carol (Bill) Jenkins of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Diana Harmon and a brother, Charles Musser.

Funeral service will be Wednesday (June 21st) at 1:00 PM at the Plymouth United Methodist Church 970 Plymouth Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Samara Jenkins and Rev. Betsy Schenk officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Plymouth Twp.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, 970 Plymouth Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 or The Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave. Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
