Miguel "Mike" C. Santiago

Miguel “Mike” C. Santiago, 85, of Ashtabula passed Peacefully Thursday, June 27th, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center surrounded by his family. The son of Juan and Herminia (Gonzalez)Santiago, he was born October 15, 1933 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, and was the 2nd child of 8. 

Mike began his career with PennCentral then went on to work for Conrail for over 40 years until his retirement in 1995. 

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. He was also a proud Cursillista. He enjoyed gardening, boxing, mechanics, going to old time car shows, Music, going on casino trips, and watching the Cleveland Indians. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and his dog “Romeo”

Surviving him is his Daughter Rosie(Frankie)Santiago- Ortiz of Ashtabula; Two Brothers: Jose Luis Santiago and José Juan Santiago, Two Sisters: Carmen (Antonio) Maestre and Maria M Santiago all of Utuado, PR; his Mother-in-law Norberta Díaz of Ashtabula, 5 Sisters-in-law: Juana Oquendo (Florencio)of Florida, Daisy Santiago of Pennsylvania, Hilda(Frankie)Nater, Dora Higgins, and Francis Santiago all of Ashtabula; a Brother-in-law Alberto Oquendo of Virginia; a special niece Maria Cora of Ashtabula; and many Nieces & Nephews, As well as great & great great Nieces & Nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, The Love of his life, his beloved wife, Luisa “Lulu”  in 2014, two brothers, Juan ”Tony” Antonio Santiago and Francisco “Frank” Santiago and by a sister, Maria Teresa Santiago, His father-in-law Francisco “Chico” Ramos, and a Brother-in-law Felix Ramos. 

A mass of Christian burial will be Saturday (July 6th) at 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of Peace, St Joseph Church, 3312 Lake Ave. Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Saybrook Township.

Calling hours will be Friday (July 5th) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula.

Memorial contributions in Mike’s memory can be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
