Lempi J. Moisio, age 94. S. Denmark Rd., Denmark Twp., died early Saturday morning at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.

She was born September 13, 1923 in Denmark Twp., the daughter of John & Marian (Niemi) Hietanen and has resided in Denmark Twp. all of her life.  She was very proud of her Finnish heritage. Lempi was married to Oliver A. Moisio on October 4, 1941 in Jefferson.  Mrs. Moisio worked for the election board in Denmark Twp. for several years and was the manager of the Community Action meal site at the Jefferson Community Center for many years.  Lempi’s wish was “I hope people will remember me with kindness… I believe that I am putting something back into the community.   God has been good to me.”

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and former member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, and the former Denmark Grange.  Lempi enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting, needlepoint, cross stitch, reading, writing poetry and gardening.  During the days of the Dorset Sale Barn, Lempi made 15 pies a week to serve with their meals there.  Lempi could be fiercely independent and surprised her family when she obtained her first driver’s license at age 70.

Survivors include four children, David O. (Ann) Moisio and Kathryn E. (James) Fassett, both of Denmark Twp., Rebecca I. (Robert) Broderick of Mt. Juliet, TN & Thomas C. (Linda) Moisio of Denmark Twp., 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oliver in 1991, a son, Steven R. Moisio in 2010, a great-grandson, Cody Woodworth and 12 siblings.

Memorial services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Friday, February 23, 2018 at 11:00 A. M. with the Rev.
