Laura H. Johnson, 81 has gone home to the Lord on Wednesday (July 19th) at her home. She was born June 28, 1936 in Bulah, Ashtabula County Ohio the daughter of Lawrence W. and Floe L. (Henderson) Svenson and has been a lifetime area resident.

She was a graduate of Hamot Hospital Nursing School in Erie, Pa. From 1957 to 1981 she was a Register Nurse at Ashtabula General Hospital; from 1973 until 1998 she worked for oral surgeons Dr. Arminani and Dr. Stevens at the Ashtabula Dental Clinic.  She was also involved in the music ministry at Saybrook United Methodist church from 1962 to the present and she also taught piano for 64 years.

She was active in 4-H, Girl Scouts and Brownies when her daughters were young. She was also involved with the Ohio Child Conservation League, the Christian Women’s Club and Friendship Bible Coffee group; the Red Cross where she volunteered and was a blood donor and American Cancer Society Volunteer. She was a competitive Artistic Roller Dance participant and a Patron at the Ashtabula Arts Center.

She enjoyed golfing, tennis, bowling, reading, crocheting, tatting, knitting, sewing,  singing, playing the piano, writing letters and e-mail, roller skating, traveling and dancing.

Surviving her are two daughters, Cynthia R. (Gary) Kirby of Jacksonville, FL and Sheri L. (Rick) Leavitt of Ashtabula, two grandsons, Nicholas Leavitt and Cameron Leavitt and her sister, Hazel Hanneman of Saybrook. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Wallace “Wally” R. Johnson in 1998.

Funeral service will be Saturday (July 22nd) at 10:30 AM at the Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 S. Depot Rd. Ashtabula with Rev. Jeff Stool officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens in North Kingsville.

Calling hour will be Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Saybrook United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. In her memory please perform an act of kindness for a stranger or friend.
