Junior “J. R.” Snyder, age 85, of Plymouth Twp., died Thursday afternoon at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center.
He was born January 23, 1933 in Buckhannon, WV, the son of Elbert & Kathleen (Riffle) Snyder and has lived in this area since his high school graduation in Buckhannon. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving in the Korean Conflict. J. R. was married to Joyce M. Broughton on July 3, 1953 in Biloxi, MS. He was a retired employee of the Ashtabula Bow Socket.
Mr. Snyder was an avid golfer, playing all of the local courses and playing on many leagues in the area. He was also an avid bowler, played in the YMCA Volleyball league, enjoyed fishing, barbecuing and liked his cigars.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce, a son, Steve R. (Mary) Snyder of Jefferson and two grandchildren, Sydney M. Snyder of Denver, CO & Phillip M. (Stephanie) Snyder of Canon City, CO. His parents, a brother, Willard and brother-in-law, William Broughton preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A. M. at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula with the Rev. Mick Gilliam officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens where N. Kingsville American Legion Post #743 will render military honors.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-7 P. M. at the funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
