Harry Irwin Kehres

June 24, 1933 ~ July 22, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


Harry I. Kehres, age 84, Linden St., Jefferson, died Saturday morning at the Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield.

He was born June 24, 1933 in Painesville, the son of Irwin B. & Elda (Hawley) Kehres and has resided in Jefferson since 1972 coming from Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.  Mr. Kehres retired from the U. S. Air Force after 20 years, serving in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.  He was also a retired employee of ACME Scrap in Ashtabula.

Mr. Kehres married Luella I. Ashley on February 1, 1954 in Jefferson.  He was a member of the V. F. W. Post #943, Jefferson Eagles Aerie Lodge #3881 and the Army-Navy Union.  His past times included fishing and watching military shows and Westerns.

Survivors include four children, Eugene B. (Alene) Kehres of Lehigh Acres, FL, Cynthia A. Tackett of Lakeland, FL, Kathy K. (Don) Abrams of Columbus & Kevin C. Kehres of Jefferson, a daughter-in-law, Virginia Kehres of Conneaut, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Grace White of Jefferson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Luella on 3/1/17, a son, Robert in 2015 and a sister, Barbara Kehres.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 PM at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson.  Burial with his wife, Luella and military services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
