Gerald J. Allen

Gerald J. “Gerry” Allen passed away on March 9, 2018 with his family at his side. He was born on October 14, 1955 in Ashtabula, Ohio.  He was the son of the late Elmer F. and Mary J. Allen.  Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved sister Betty L. Allen and brother Richard F. Allen.

A native of Ashtabula, Ohio, Gerald graduated from Kent State University and Youngstown State holding a MBA in teaching. Gerald devoted his entire professional career as a teacher and mentor for young minds. Gerald proudly served on the Ashtabula Area City School’s Board of Education and was a youth advisor for DECA. Gerald was a Past Exalted ruler for Ashtabula Elks BPOE #208, for two terms. He and Nancy traveled extensively visiting other Elks Lodges throughout the United States; enjoying every minute.  Even after retirement, he continued to dedicate his life to helping others by working security at Kinder Morgan/Pinney Dock and as a case worker at Geauga County’s Job and Family Services. 

Gerald is survived by his longtime companion and friend, Nancy Dearing, nephews & niece Rabon (Shannon) Allen, Rick (Amy) Allen, David (Chryss) Allen, Emily (Alex) Barnett. There are many cousins’ extended family and dear friends that Gerald will be forever remembered by.

Gerald fought a courageous battle with multiple health issues never complaining and always the first to say “it’s all good.”  At Gerald’s request there will be no calling hours.  A gravesite memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Ridgeview Cemetery, 7205 Austinburg Rd., Ashtabula at 11:00 o’clock.  In Lieu of Flowers please consider “The Allen Family Trust” dedicated to giving scholarships to worthy local students in memory him and Betty. 

As a fitting tribute to a Past Exalted Ruler for the Elks Lodge BPOE #208 “Let’s raise our glass to Gerry Allen and have the “Eleven O’clock Toast”.
