Charles G. Hague

Honorable Judge Charles G. Hague (Ret) 75 of Ashtabula died Monday (January 15th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the son of Nelson and Mabel (Caldwell) Hague and has been a life time area resident.

He was a 1960 graduate of Harbor High School; he received his B.A.  Degree from Hiram College in 1964 and his J.D. Degree from Case Western Reserve University College of Law in 1968. Charles then joined his father’s law firm, Hague and Hague Co. LPA and practiced with his father until his father’s death in 1986. He served as Judge to the Ashtabula Municipal Court from 1979 until 1993 and then he served as Judge, Court of Common Pleas Probate/Juvenile Division from 1993 until his retirement.

Charles was active in the Ashtabula County Bar Association and the Ohio Bar Association. He was on the Executive Committee and past president of the Ohio Association of Probate Judges. He was also on the Board of Trustees and Past Chairman of the Ohio Judicial College.

He was also involved in many community activities including, a trustee for Ashtabula Community Health services; Past President of the Ashtabula Rotary Club; Past President of the Ashtabula County Society for Handicap Children and Adults; Past Chairman of the Ashtabula County Children Services Board; Life member of the Ashtabula Rod & Gun Club; on the Board of Trustees of the Salvation Army; a member of the Ashtabula Chapter of Ducks Unlimited; a Life Member of the Marine Museum Advisory Board; on the Board of Trustees for Ashtabula County Legal Aid; Past Chairman of the Ashtabula County Public Defenders Commission; Life Member of the Ohio Gun Collections Association; a Life Member of the National Rifle Association; on the Board of Trustees of the Lake Area Recovery Center and Past Chairman of the Ashtabula Area Museum and Historical Society. Charles had also been inducted in the Ashtabula/Harbor/Lakeside Alumni Hall of Fame.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Surviving him are his three children, Mauri (Tony) Kosicek of Ashtabula, Bret (Angela) Hague of Erie, PA and Kirsten (Rich) Esber of Canton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Corey Hague, Kasey Hague, Emma Kosicek, Anthony Kosicek, Abby Casper and Isabella Esber; the love of his life, Mary Homick; a brother, Thad (Mary Margaret) Hague of Columbia, MD and a sister, Dottie (Jimmy) Gilchrist of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday (Jan. 20th) at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace, Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 West 6th St. Ashtabula with Rev. Father Raymond Thomas officiating.

Calling hours will be Friday (Jan. 19th) from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula, Ohio.
