Charles W. "Bill" Brenkus

July 30, 1931 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Charles W. “Bill” Brenkus, age 86, formerly of Webster Rd., Lenox Twp., died Thursday morning at the Jefferson Healthcare Center where he had been a patient the past two and a half year.

He was born July 30, 1931 in Jefferson, the son of Simon & Barbara (Beibir) Brenkus and had been a Jefferson area resident all of his life.  Bill was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict.  He worked 42 years with Operating Engineers Local #18 in Cleveland and was recently recognized for being a member of 60 years with the Operating Engineers.

Bill and his wife Mary were foster parents for many years, fostering more than 100 children and have been named Foster Parents of the Year, family was Bill’s life as he helped all his children build their homes, was one of the original volunteers to develop and build the JAGS Complex and was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.  Bill truly enjoyed working and helping other people.

Survivors include his wife, Mary K. (Brown) Brenkus whom he shared a room with at the Jefferson Healthcare Center, three children, Kurt R. (Kim) Brenkus & Alisa K. (Jason) Stalnaker, both of Jefferson and Jenna A. Brenkus of Ashtabula, eight grandchildren, Tyler, Max & Sam Brenkus, Amber Stvartak, Brittany & Colleen Hurst and Tanner & Chloe Lee, one great-grandson, Tyler Dustin Brenkus, a sister, Sophie Dreslinski of Kingsville and a brother, Benjamin (Lucille) Brenkus of Ashtabula.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Jeffrey & Timothy Brenkus, a grandson, Dustin Brenkus, brothers, Martin & John Brenkus and sisters, Helen Schiedel, Francis Downs & Rose Yurenek.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with certified celebrant, Alisa Nierzejewski leading the service.  Dewey Howlett Post #103 of the American Legion will offer military honors Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.  Private burial will be Monday in Oakdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 12-2 P. M.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Ashtabula Co.
