Betty J. Close , 98 of Ashtabula died Friday (Aug. 5th) at the County Club Retirement Campus in Ashtabula. She was born May 7, 1919 in Warren, Ohio the daughter of John and Agnes (West) Shore and has been a lifetime area resident.

She as a 1937 graduate of Jefferson High School and had been employed by Reliance Electric in Ashtabula until her retirement.

She was a member of the Austinburg First United Church of Christ and had been  in the Grottoetts in Ashtabula. She enjoyed golfing and loved and taught caning at the Vo-Ed Center.

Surviving her is her son David L. (Simone) Close of Ashtabula; her son-in-law, Keith Halleen Of Chardon; six grandchildren, Lori, Scott, Paul, Ronald, Vincent and Andrew; eleven great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Shore of Ashtabula and her companion, Roy “Pat” Pattison of Ashtabula. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon H. Close in 1981; a son, John H. Close in 1944; a daughter, Roberta Halleen in 2015; eight brothers and sisters, Harlan Shore, Kathryn Norris, Robert Shore, Vivian Maille, Dorothy Jablonski, Mary Margaret Eisenhart, John Shore and Raymond Shore.

Funeral service will be Wednesday (Aug. 9th) at 2:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Pastor Mary Ann Jopperi officiating Burial will be in Austin Cemetery in Austinburg.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Bella Care Hospice, 1933 State Route 45, Austinburg, Ohio 44010.

The family would like to thank the nurses, caregivers, the hospice volunteers at Country Club Retirement Campus and an also thank a special friend Shirley Robinson for all the care they gave to Betty.
