Russell V. Evans, age 44, E. Maple Ave., Geneva Twp., died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at his residence.

He was born February 2, 1968 in Madison, the son of Royce R. & Victoria (Gawlikowski) Evans and has lived in the Geneva area most of his life. Russell worked in the contracting construction business, enjoyed riding motorcycles and being with friends.

Survivors include his father, Royce R. Evans of Geneva, a sister, Yvonne M. (Jack) Prine of Geneva and three nieces and nephews, Cathryn, Robert & Nathaniel Prine.

His mother, Victoria and his grandparents preceded him in death.

James W. Shannon, age 82, Chestnut Dr., Ashtabula, died Monday morning at the Country Club Retirement Center where he had resided the past five days.

He was born December 5, 1929 in Ashtabula, the son of Capt. James G. & Elizabeth (Rady) Shannon and has been a lifelong Ashtabula resident. He was a graduate of Harbor High School, Kent State University and attended Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Shannon was the national sales manager for RP&C Valve in Fairview, PA, retiring in 1988. Following his retirement he served five years as the Saybrook Twp. Zoning Inspector. He was a lifelong member of Mother of Sorrows Church where he served on the Parish Council, Elks Lodge #208, VFW Post #943 and the American Legion Post #103. His enjoyments include boating on Lake Erie, traveling to Ireland, watching football, being with his family and “Murphy”.

Survivors include his wife, Mary M. (Goss) Shannon, whom he married June 25, 1960 at Mother of Sorrows Church, three children, James M. (Liz) Shannon of Grandview Hts., Mary Kay (John) Meagher of Hillard & Lynne A. (Jim) Montgomery of Ashtabula and three grandsons, James M. Shannon, James (Jay) R. Montgomery & Sean R. Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Eleanor Goss and a brother, Francis “Pat” Shannon.

The funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 A. M. at Our Lady of Peace Mother of Sorrows Parish, 1464 W. 6th St., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with American Legion Post #103 providing full military honors.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 P. M. at the Ashtabula Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula. Richard T. Profant, Sr., age 84, Eagleville Rd., Jefferson, died Friday morning at his residence following a short illness.

He was born May 6, 1927 in Bedford, the son of Richard J. & Juanita (Shumaker) Profant and has resided in the Jefferson area since 1950 coming from Bedford. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Mr. Profant was married to M. Frances Martin on January 21, 1950 in Bedford.

Mr. Profant worked at the Western Reserve Farm Co-op for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include three children, Richard T. (Linda) Profant, Jr. of Gaithersburg, MD, June P. (Dennis) Marlow of Jefferson & Nancy S. Sidley of Jefferson, six grandchildren, Stuart A. & Shona A. Turner, Amanda L. Clark, Joshua D. Marlow and Ryan L. & Kayleigh N. Sidley and six great-grandchildren, Austin, Abigail, Zack, Marlo, Anastasia & Joshua.

His parents, his wife, Frances in 1978 and a sister, June Roselle preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Meredith Coleman of the Jefferson United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Eagleville Cemetery.

Richard E. Orth, 57 of Cemetery Rd. Saybrook Township died Friday (Jan. 20th) at his home. He was born April 18, 1954 in Ashtabula the son of Harold and Alice (Ellsworth) Orth and has lived most of his life in Ashtabula County returning to Ashtabula after having lived in Holmes County.

He was a 1972 graduate of Geneva High School and received his associate degree after attending Lakeland Community College and Kent State University Ashtabula Branch. He had been employed with Joel Polmarene Hospital and Samaritan Regional Hospital in Holmes County as a Medical Lab Technician.

He was a member of the Austinburg First United Church of Christ and a member of the United Church of Christ Glenmont in Holmes County. He sang in both church choirs and also in the Community Choir in Holmes County.

He had been a member of Big Brothers/ Big Sisters in Ashtabula County and a foster parent in Holmes County. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, book collecting, farming, Beagle dogs and his was a fisherman of people. He also enjoyed attending the Saturday morning men’s group in Holmes County.

Surviving him are his parents of Austinburg; his wife, Kathryn (Stone) Orth of Ashtabula; he and his wife’s loving 26 foster children especially Missy Davis; his brothers and sister, Jim Orth and Tom Orth of Austinburg, Jeff (Cindy) Orth of Cortland, Laura Orth Mullins of Ashtabula and Mike Orth of Austinburg and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Tuesday (Jan. 24th) at 12:00 PM at the Austinburg First United Church of Christ, 2870 State Route #307, Austinburg with Rev. Allison Milligan officiating. Burial will be in Austin Cemetery in Austinburg.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family. Stewart M. Case, age 85, W. Satin St., Jefferson, died Friday morning at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation following a short illness. He was born September 16, 1926 in Jefferson, the son of Charles S. and Hazel (Monroe) Case.

A 1944 Jefferson High School graduate, he joined the Navy and served a two-year tour in the Pacific Theater aboard LST 774 during World War II. He then studied to become a third-generation pharmacist, graduating from The Ohio State University in 1950 with a Pharmacy degree and took on the family business of owning and operating Case’s Drugstore in Jefferson until its closure in 1984. He then worked as a pharmacist at Rite Aid.

A life-long Jefferson resident, he gave back to the community in many ways. He joined the Jefferson Rotary Club in 1950 and served at one time or another on almost all committees and leadership positions, such as chairing the golf outing for many years, serving as president in 1963, and being the local chairman of Polio Vaccination Sunday. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and was an Eagle Scout.

Other service activities included being a volunteer fireman in the Wade Hose Company, the chairman of the March of Dimes, one of the originators of the Jefferson United Way, and served 16 years on the Jefferson Village Council. More recently, he volunteered at the Jefferson Community Recreation Center and mowed the lawns of the Jefferson Historical Society and the First Congregational United Church of Christ, of which he was a life-long member. He was also voted Man of the Year in 1967 and was nominated as Senior Citizen of the Year for Ashtabula County in 2011.

An avid Buckeyes fan, he held season tickets to football games and even went to the Rose Bowl in 1997 to cheer his favorite team to victory. He and his wife also traveled extensively, including trips to Alaska and Hawaii, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia.

His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Shirley M. (Tisch), whom he married on November 4, 1951 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jefferson; four children, Sharon M.Taylor of Ashtabula, Susan M. (Andy) Fabrizi of Columbia Station, Sandra M. Rovnak of N. Canton and Charles S. Case, II of Ashtabula; seven grandchildren; Lindsay Milam, Megan Miller, Adam, Alicia & Anthony Fabrizi, Jennifer Kintz & Jillian Calabretta; three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lucas & Olivia with a fourth due in August and a sister, Joan (Robert) Kincer of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Janet Brenneman; and a son-in-law, Edward Taylor.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 A. M. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 41 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Jim Brehler officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 P. M. at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with Tuscan Lodge #342 F. & A. M. offering Masonic services at 7:45 P. M. Leora L. Hamm, age 79, Hickok Rd., Jefferson, died Friday afternoon at the Jefferson Healthcare Center.

She was born December 8, 1932 in Jefferson, SD, the daughter of A. C. & Jesse (Lloyd) Blangy. Her husband, Robert Hamm preceded her in death.,P> Survivors include three children, Susan Wheeler of Jefferson, Mike Lacy of Kaula Lumpon, Malaysia & Kenneth Lacy of Charlotte, NC, four grandchildren, two sisters and a brother.

Archie P. Bilger, 86 of East Union St. Geneva , passed away on Wednesday (January 11th) at his home just as he wanted. He was born May 16th, 1925 in Geneva, Ohio the son of Frank and Bessie (Spade) Bilger and has been a lifelong Geneva resident.

He graduated from Geneva High School in 1943. After graduation he felt a need to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a radioman on the USS Whitney, AD-4, located in the Pacific Theater of Operations and was awarded multiple medals including the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, The Victory Medal, The American Area Medal, the Phil, LB Medal. The ship was decommissioned after the war in 1946. Archie always went to his ship reunions all over the United States, and highly cherished spending time with his shipmates and sharing this with his family. In October 2010 he was picked by Honor Flight to be taken to Washington D.C. to visit the World War II memorial.

After returning home from the war, Archie worked for Toledo Edison in Sandusky, Ohio as a Lineman. After having an accident at Toledo Edison, Archie got employment at Union Carbide in Ashtabula and worked there for 38 years retiring as a Railroad Yard Forman. He also worked part time as an Auxiliary Police Officer for the Geneva Police Department for many years. He also worked at Western County Court as a Bailiff retiring from there at age 85.

He was a member of the American Legion George Call Post #124; the VFW Post 6846 in Geneva; the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2243; a Honorary member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Post 114 and a charter member of FOPA Lodge number #74 started in 1967. He enjoyed belonging to Softball Leagues in Geneva, playing catcher; a member of the North Center Tavern Golf League; Thursday Night Men’s Bowling League. He loved both hunting, fishing, especially catfishing and he loved the Geneva Marching Band. He and Ray Arndt made soup and delivered it for the Grape Jamboree set up committee every year. He enjoyed growing Zinnia flowers in his garden and taking bouquets all around town to the girls.

Surviving him is his daughter, Diane Bilger-Hemmi of Geneva; a sister, Mickey Cauffield of Geneva; two granddaughters, Billie Rae Birch and Dawn Marie (Brian) Hemmi-Abbott; great-grandchildren, Robert, Paul, Matthew, Tina Guzzo and Brian Abbott, Jr.; many nieces and nephews and beat friends, Bob Cunningham, Richard Stevens and Les Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, His wife, Fran Bilger; a brother, John Bilger and a sister, Leota Meyers.

Funeral services will be Tuesday (Jan. 17th) at 11:00 AM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva with Judge Richard Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with VFW Post 6846 conducting military rites.

Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 16th from 3:30 to 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the family. Lois M. Conn, 94 of North Maple St. Orwell died Wednesday (Jan. 11th) at UH Geauga Medical Center in Chardon, Ohio. She was born March 22, 1917 in Rundletown, Pa. the daughter of Robert F. and Mary (Ross) Watson.

She had been employed with Geneva American Fork and Hoe; Molded Fiber Glass; Champion Hardware in Geneva and from 1965 to 1977 for the Grand Valley School District. She also cooked at the 4-H camp in Windsor and also several church camps.

She is a member of the Orwell Presbyterian Church; the Geneva VFW Auxiliary #6846 and the Jefferson Grange. She enjoyed gardening, and bowling.

Surviving her is her daughter Iyelene (Michael) Hacker Macek of Hartsgrove; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irvin Conn in 1972; four sons, Wayne D. Kinney, Jr in 1936 and Robert F. Kinney in 1945 in infancy and Wayne D. Kinney and John D. Kinney also preceded in two brothers, Stephen Watson and Julius Watson and a sister, Ellen Vorse.

Funeral service will be Monday (Jan. 16th) at 1:00 PM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 323 South Broadway, Geneva with Rev. Bob Cunningham of The United Church officiating. Burial will be in Hartsgrove Cemetery.

Nathan E. Wilson, age 20, Cumberland Ave., Madison, TN., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday at his home in Madison, TN.

He was born November 25, 1991 in Port Charlotte, FL, the beloved son of James A. Wilson & Sarah E. McCoy. He was a graduate of Lakeside High School and just recently moved to Madison with his father.

He loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting and bringing home strays. He especially loved his coon dog, Theodore. Nathan loved life and everyone who knew him loved him and was his friend. He was a member of the Conneaut Church of God youth ministry for several years, where he loved doing drama’s and attending youth outings. Nathan was a gentle and loving young man who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, James in Madison, TN and Sarah in Oklahoma, three brothers, Troy & Kenny Kelley and his cherished twin, Caleb Wilson and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edgar & Margaret Wilson, Stuart & Iretta McCoy, cousins, Christopher Laiosa, Joshua Dawson & David Sturgill and his beloved aunt, Sue Dawson.

A memorial service will be held today, Friday at 6:00 P. M. at the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Rd., (St. Rt. 7), Conneaut. The Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 49 W.
