Marian W. Candon, 104, formerly of Roaming Shores and Euclid, died on September 10th at the Country Club Retirement Center where she had lived since 2003. 

She was born on April 20, 1911 in Michigan, the daughter of William and Frances (Skerl) Candon.  She earned a B.S. degree in Nursing Education from Ohio State University and a Master’s degree from Western Reserve University. 

She joined the U. S. Army Nurse Corps where she served at military bases around the U. S. before being sent to Germany and Korea.  Her chief responsibility was to train and supervise Army field nurses and corpsmen.  She received many awards including an Army Commendation Ribbon and pendant.  She retired from the Army in 1961 having earned a rank of Major.  Upon returning to Cleveland, she served as Director of Nursing Services for the Greater Cleveland Red Cross.  In 1964, she was instrumental in developing the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Cuyahoga Community College.  She taught there as a full professor and retired in 1976. 

She was a member of the American Nurses Association, the National League for Nursing, the alumni associations for O.S.U. and C.W.R.U. and Metro Health, and she was a board member for the Slovene Home for the Aged.  She enjoyed traveling, reading, music, and emailing.  She was also an excellent seamstress.

Surviving her is a sister-in-law, Helen Candon, a niece, Dianne Shannon, two great nieces, Lisa Lester and Lori Candon and a great-nephew, Lance Candon.  She was preceded by her parents, two sisters, Vera Candon and Emma Stupka and two brothers, William F. Candon and Walter A. Candon.
