Welcome to the memorial page for

John "Jack" Aloysius Maylish, Jr.

February 9, 1940 ~ March 25, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

John A. “Jack” Maylish, Jr. age 77, Jefferson Twp., died unexpectedly Saturday morning at his residence.

He was born February 9, 1940 in Cleveland, the son of John A. & Stephanie M. (Gustetic) Maylish, Sr. and has lived in Ashtabula Co. most of his life.  Jack was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson High School.  He married his high school sweetheart Carol M. Topper on April 20, 1963 in Jefferson.  He was a member of St. Joseph Calasanctius Church, but those that knew Jack knew his real faith came from his belief in “Praise God Church”.

Jack owned Jack’s Gulf Station in Jefferson from 1963-1988 and drove school bus for Jefferson Area Schools, then worked for Karlco Oil Field Services for a short time before taking a position with Jefferson Twp. until his retirement in 2004.  Jack also served as Jefferson & Morgan Townships Zoning Inspector and was currently serving on the Jefferson Twp. Zoning Board.  He was a poll worker for the Ashtabula Co. Board of Elections for many years.

Also over the years Jack has sponsored little league and bowling teams and supported the local cheerleaders by offering his gas station for car washes.  Jack and his wife, Carol have been volunteers with Hospice of the Western Reserve the past 12 years where he was recognized as Senior Citizen of the Year.  He also volunteered for Faith in Action, building handicap ramps.  He was a member of the Lenox Historical Society and loved cooking at the Friday night fish fry’s.   Jack, with his son John, operated the Maylish Family Farm.  He was a Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR and Cleveland Indians fan.  Jack had much pride in his Chevy Monte Carlo, Impala SS, his red tractors and had a unique liking of frogs.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, five children, Laurie M. (Frank) Kogovsek of Chardon, John A. (Cathy) Maylish of Jefferson, Joseph S. Maylish of Boulder City, NV, Marie A. (Frankie Young) Maylish of Troy, NC & Andrew J. (Stephanie Byrd) Maylish of Denver, NC, four grandchildren, Nick & Jen Kogovsek and Tyler & Brandon Maylish. Jack was an amazing grandpa which he continuously demonstrated through his unconditional love, laughter and guidance.  Also surviving are two brothers, James A. (Marie) Maylish of Rome Twp. & William K. (Kathy) Maylish of Sheffield Twp.  He also leaves behind his many lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jacqueline Marie Maylish in 1994.

Over the years, Jack made it clear and said “when I pass away everyone had better wear jeans to my services!” We ask that you please honor his wishes.
