John S. Brenkus, age 72 of March Rd., Jefferson, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.  He was born on September 3, 1942 in Jefferson, the son of Simon & Barbara Brenkus. John was born a first generation American.

He served his country in the U. S. Army during 1960-1962. He worked in construction for some time before opening March Road Salvage which he has owned and operated for the past 40 years.  He enjoyed tinkering in his garage, gardening and his 1978 little red mustang that he loved to take for a drive on Sunday afternoons.  He loved throwing BBQs and having all his family together.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his love!

He is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Leona L. Jewett of Jefferson; children,  Jon S. Brenkus, Kelly E. Munnings of Rock Creek, Michael S. (Teri) Brenkus of Bellville, Kurt J. (Karen) Brenkus of Thompson; brothers, Charles (Mary Kay) Brenkus of Jefferson, Benjamin (Lucille) Brenkus of Ashtabula, Sophia Dreslinski of Kingsville; 36 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Helen Schiedel, brother Martin Brenkus and sister Frances Downs.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 11:00 A. M. at the Jefferson Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with Fr. John Sheridan of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. The Geneva Post VFW #6846 will be performing a military service prior to burial in Griggs Cemetery.
