Jay David Sutch

February 4, 1947 ~ November 16, 2015 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Jay David Sutch, age 68 of Austinburg Twp., unexpectedly passed into glory and freedom after a prolonged battle with COPD on Monday, November 16, 2015.

He was born on February 4, 1947 in Painesville to the parents Julius B. & Rachel M. (Cunningham) Sutch.  Jay was raised in Perry and was a 1966 graduate of Perry High School.  He has been a resident of Austinburg Twp. the past 41 years.

Jay joined the U. S. Navy in 1966 and served on the USS Bon Homme Richard and the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War.  For many years Jay drove semi for various companies and in 1997 became owner and operator of Jaybird Transport, Inc.  Following retirement in 2007 he worked locally driving dump truck and was also a driver and attendant for Fleming & Billman Funeral Homes.

Jay was a jack of all trades and a master of quite a few-welding, fabricating, designing and could repair almost anything.  He was happiest on his tractor or in his garage and passed this legacy onto his sons and his grandsons.

Jay is survived by his wife, Ann L. (Fobes) Sutch, whom he married on November 11, 1969 in Jamestown, NY, four children, Jeremy (Faith) Sutch of Austinburg Twp., Jennifer (Bernard) Carpenter of Cherry Valley Twp., Jason Sutch, serving with the U. S. Navy in Guam & Julia (Chris Salyers) Sutch of Ashtabula, four grandchildren, Jessica (Daniel) Pocci, Joshua Sutch and twins, Dustin & Gabriel Salyers, a great-grandson, Michael James Pocci, a sister, Gayle (Ed) Glynn of Frederick, MD and a brother, Alan (Donna) Sutch of Madison.

His parents and a nephew, Scott Sutch preceded him in death.

At Jay’s request, no services will be held at this time.  The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Geneva Post #6846 VFW, 76 Depot St., Geneva, OH  44041.  All of us at Fleming & Billman Funeral Homes and Crematory, 49 W.
