James B. Simmons, 82 of Austinburg died unexpectly Thursday (Jan. 4th) at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1935 in Kingsville, Ohio the son of Benjamin H. and Stella Ruth (Bugby) Simmons.

He was a graduate of Kingsville High School and worked as a maintenance electrician for E SSAP in Ashtabula for 36 years. He enjoyed attending two different breakfast clubs with his former coworkers.

He was a longtime and active member of Kingsville Presbyterian Church and enjoyed fixing and repairing things at the church. He was an all-around handyman and was a jack of all trades. In his later years he enjoyed fixing up and modifying golf carts. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and he adored his grandchildren.

Surviving him is his wife Cherie A. (Andrews) Simmons whom he married June 19, 1954; a son, Michael J. (Nivia) Simmons of Conneaut; a daughter, Cnythia (James) Easthom of Lancaster, KY; eight grandchildren, Meranda, Michael II, Benjamin, Angelina, April, Jamie, Rebecca and Rosebelle; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Lauraetta Lute of Kingsville and two brothers, Charles Richard (Marilyn) Simmons of Ashtabula and Thomas H. Simmons of Kingsville. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Andrew Simmons in 1991 and Steven D Simmons in 2005 and by two sisters, Marilyn Simmons and Dorothy Camplese.

Funeral service will be Thursday (June 11th) at 1:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Pastor William Daywalt of Kingsville Presbyterian Church officiating.

Calling hours will be Wednesday (Jan. 10th) from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Kingsville Presbyterian Church. Condolences, light a candle and obituary at fleming-billman.com.
