Edward A. Gathagan

March 25, 1936 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 81) 81 Years Old


Edward A. Gathagan, of Ashtabula died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday (Jan. 5th) at the Cleveland Metro Hospital in Cleveland. He was born March 25, 1936 in Becearia, PA the son of Edward D. and Ann (Gallagher) Gathagan.

Edward was a veteran of the US Army serving in the 1950’s.

He had worked for 45 years at Harbor High School  in the Ashtabula City school system as a boiler engineer until his retirement.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace, he loved the Lord and going to church. He had his pilot license and also loving driving his car. He enjoyed woodworking, mechanical work and working around the house. Ed always loved visiting with people.

Surviving him is his wife Lillian (Lander) Gathagan whom he married August 13, 1980; a son, Timothy E. Gathagan of Ligonier, PA; a daughter, Tammy (Rick) Ellis of Polk City, FL; two granddaughters, Tamara Dunn and Sonia Carrell; two great grandchildren, Rickie Leanne Ellis and Domninic Edward Dunn and a sister, Evelyn G. Miller in Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Shawn Edward Gathagan and four sisters, Betty Lefebove, Jean Cleveland, Lois Mathews and Loraine Kissinger.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday (Jan. 10th) at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace, Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st Street, Ashtabula, Ohio with calling hour from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church.

Entombment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Saybrook Township with American Legion Post #103 conducting military rites.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Peace, Mother of Sorrows.
