Dorothy L. Havens, age 101, W. Satin St., Jefferson, died Tuesday morning at the Jefferson Healthcare Center where she has resided the past year.
She was born June 21, 1916 in Denmark Twp., the daughter of Herbert W. & Clara E. (Benson) Munger and has lived in the Jefferson area all of her life. She was married to Howard M. Havens on September 23, 1938 in Jefferson at her parents’ home. Mrs. Havens received her teaching certificate from Kent State University and her bachelor’s degree from Lake Erie College. Mrs. Havens was a 1976 retired Jefferson Area Local Schools elementary teacher.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson where she was active with Christian Education, the Dorcas Circle and the Buenos Amigos Sunday school class. She was a member of the Ashtabula County Retired Teachers Association. Her enjoyment was being with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel D. (Doris) Havens & Richard H. “Rick” (Kay) Havens, both of Jefferson, a daughter-in-law, Cheryl F. Havens of Munroe Falls, eight grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard in 2000, a son, Rollin L. Havens in 2008, two grandchildren, Susan L. Eybers in 2012 and Douglas D. Havens in 2015, two brothers, one in infancy and Maurice W. Munger and a sister, Bonita F. Olds.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 A. M. at the First Baptist Church, 85 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson with her son, Pastor Rick Havens and grandson, Rev. Bruce Havens officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 10-11 A. M. at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund (above address), envelopes will also be at the church.
