Donald H. Maginnis

July 24, 1933 ~ November 19, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old


 

Donald H. Maginnis, 84 passed away peacefully November 19, 2017, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home with his wife by his side. He was born July 24, 1933 in Erie, PA the son of Donald and Margaret (Hall) Maginnis.

He married the love of his life, Nancy Reed on January 23, 2017.

He was a graduate of Ashtabula High School, Class of 1951 and served in the US Navy immediately following graduation. He was in the Navy Honor Guard in Washington D. C. and then on a destroyer serving in Korea. Upon his discharge from the Navy he sailed for several years on the Great Lakes. He retired from Reactive Metals as a Stationary Engineer and also from the Ashtabula Area City Schools as a school bus driver.  He then drove a tour bus for 5 years and was employed as a driver at Greenelight Work force prior to health issues.

He was a lover of animals and will be sadly missed by his loving canine companion, Misty.

Due to his joyous laughter he was always easy to find in a crowd.

He was a Past Master of Rising Sun Lodge #22 F &AM, a Past District Education Officer and Past District Deputy Grad Master of the25th Masonic District, and also a Past Monarch of El Kadir Grotto. He was a Life Member of the Valley of Cleveland Scottish Rite Masons, a Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars #943, Member of American Legion #103, Life Member of the East Ashtabula Club and Past Commodore of Riverside Yacht Club and a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; a daughter, Brenda and a son, Michael both of California; a sister, Diane Large and  brother, Leon (Sani) Maginnis both of Santee, South Carolina; a sister, Watesah (the late Robert) Hutchinson of North East, PA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Terry Large.

A funeral service will be Tuesday (Nov. 21st) at 6:00 PM at the Ashtabula Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors, 526 W. Prospect Rd. Ashtabula with Rising Sun Lodge #22 F &M conducting masonic rites followed by a service with Rev. Mark Mong of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating.  There will be military rites by American Legion Post #103.

Calling hours will be Tuesday (Nov. 21st) from 4:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1342 W.
